For the most part, whenever a politician or a political commentator brings up the 25 Amendment, it’s usually in relation to presidential succession. Hot New Hip Hop says the amendment was adopted following the death of John F. Kennedy, who was shot and killed in the middle of a parade.
The amendment states that if the president is unable to do his/her job, the vice president will take their place. The 25th amendment has a lot of other purposes as well, including a section on how the president can give up their power to the vice president if needed.
This can also be used in special circumstances like if a president has to undergo a medical procedure where he/she is temporarily unconscious or incapacitated in some way. These days, the question of Trump’s value as a president has been criticized yet again but this time related to the Capitol Hill riots.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, a part of the 25th Amendment states that a vice president can write into Congress about how the president is no longer fit to serve as the figurehead in the executive branch. The president can respond to this directly.

If the vice president does choose to go down this path, the decision would then be turned over to Congress who would vote on the president’s right to serve. If the VP wins, the president has to leave, but if he loses, the standing president stays where she is.
In other words, as one social media user put it, “it’s just another way of trying to get the president out of his position as soon as possible, even though he’s about to be replaced by Joe Biden anyway.” CNN reported this week that Mike Pence hasn’t ruled out the possibility of using the 25th amendment just yet.
